School Board Seat Vacancies
Section III, Seat E: Unalakleet, Shaktoolik, Koyuk
Section V, Seat I: Gambell, Savoonga
The Bering Strait School District Board of Education is accepting candidacy forms to fill the School Board Seat E and Seat I vacancies.
Any legally qualified citizen located in Unalakleet, Shaktoolik, or Koyuk and Gambell, or Savoonga that is interested in serving on the Board of Education may submit a candidacy form to:

Candidacy forms must be received by Friday, November 28, 2025 5:00pm. Candidates will be interviewed by the Board of Education on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
Qualifications (Per BB 9210):
1. is a citizen of the United States;
2. is 18 years of age or older;
3. is a registered voter in the State of Alaska;
4. has been a resident of the school district for 30 days immediately preceding the election (or appointment); and
5. is not disqualified from voting due to:
a. conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude, assuming voting rights have not been restored; or
b. a court finding of incompetency, unless the disability no longer exists.
The Board of Education may appoint a candidate to Seat E and Seat I directly after interviews on December 3, 2025.
Candidates would be a provisional appointment where they would service until the next regular election held October 6, 2026.
