Little Rock Nine Essay

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Segregation is one of the most horrifying things in this world. You wouldn’t believe how much of it we have in this world! What gets me really mad is segregation among our teens. What taught me about how to drop segregation is Little Rock Nine.
There has been segregation since this time until now.
Central High school is where the Little Rock Nine has gone to go school. Central High school was an all white school. There the nine black students were criticized and not wanted at the school. Nowadays people don’t really care if they are white or black, but if it comes to racism or if students have conflict between each other.
The Little Rock Nine have been taunted by mobs for many days. Believe it or not there are many “gangsters” that taunt “nerds” and “geeks” today also.
Harassing has been a major conflict between different ethnic groups. Being harassed isn’t any fun if it’s towards you. The nine students were harassed probably everyday. Nowadays, more than 15 percent of girls are being harassed and at least 14 percent are boys.
Separating groups by gender, race, or even age. In the years of the nine students they were to sit in the back of the room while the white people sat at the front. Today, there are people who choose to where they want to sit so it’s not really a problem for it nowadays.
We, as villagers, have to prevent it for we are role models for the little kids, as they grow older. Little Rock Nine taught me so much about being a racist.

Boarding

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

There are three different kinds of boarding that I know of. Skateboarding, snowboarding, and snowskating. All three of them are my hobbies. These are some things I’m thankful for.
Skateboarding is fun and different. You can have sessions in public places, and its something else to do. You can do a lot of cool things. Some tricks are Kickflip (full rotation to the left), 360 Flip (Kickflip and a 360 Pop Shove-it), McTwist (Backside 540 combined with a Mute), and Christ Air (board in one hand body in a cross position). Professional skaters can make between $50K and $1 million. There are two types of terrain: street (terrain on the streets of cities with boxes, ramps, and rails) and vert (half pipes, pools, full pipes, and quarter pipes).

The feeling of landing a snowboarding trick feels great, especially if it’s a trick you didn’t land before. The feeling is great because I suck at snowboarding, I can go down a hill without crashing, but I can do any tricks besides a 180, nose press (nose manuel), and manuel. So, it feels great when I grind, or ride off a kicker. Some tricks are: Indy (grabbing the middle of the board), 1080 (three spins), and Nosegrab (grabbing the front of the board). Some snowboarding teams are Burton, Sims, Nitro, and Forum. There are three styles: Freestyle (riding down any terrain available), Freeride (snowboarder rides down any man-made terrain such as rails, boxes and kickers), and Freecarve/Race (hard-packed runs with dangerous carving turns).

The dangers on a snowskate are getting caught in an avalanche, getting too much air/speed, falling off a rail, and slipping down stairs. I am thankful for snowskating because I can do a lot of more tricks, a lot of more fearful things. Until you do the fearful skating (going off cliffs and landing off banks, going down hills, snowskating down stair set hand rails) its not scary, its fun. You can break a bone, dislocate joints, or deform body parts. Snowskates comes in a single deck and double deck (bideck, bilevel). Some snowskates are made out of glass-filled nylon, plastic, and wood. With a snowskate you can go skate on the street, ski resorts, and skate parks.

I am thankful for boarding because it’s something else to do, its different (few people do it). Also, it feels good to land something you didn’t land before. Boarding also goes with the type of music (ex. Metal and Hardcore Punk.) I listen to. That is all I know/found out about boarding.
